Brief Bio
B.B. King was born Riley B. King on 16 September 1925 in Mississippi. Born into a sharecropping family, B. B. King became one of the best-known blues performers of all time. Following service in the U.S. Army, he began working as a disc jockey in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was dubbed “The Beale Street Blues Boy.” That nickname was soon shortened to “B. B.”

King began recording in 1949, and still records today. He also toured extensively, averaging over 300 shows annually for more than 30 years. King has participated in many collaborations over the years with artists such as Eric Clapton, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Van Morrison, and Bonnie Raitt. In 1987 King was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Still performing into his 80s, King won his fourteenth Grammy Award in 2006. In 2008 he opened B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center, a museum dedicated to his music, the music which influenced him, and the history of the delta area.
