Brief Bio
Jon Bon Jovi was born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. on March 2, 1962 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. As a teenager he loved the music of Bruce Springsteen and the Asbury Jukes. By age 16 Jon was already playing in clubs, and soon he helped to form a ten-piece rhythm and blues band, Atlantic City Expressway. Jon also played with several other bands, including The Rest, and The Lechers. He later formed another band called John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones.

In 1980, Jon recorded his first single, Runaway, at his cousin’s studio, with back-up by studio musicians. A local radio station included the song on a compilation tape, and it began to get frequent airplay. As a result Jon formed another band which, during a show in New York in 1983, caught the attention of record executive Derek Shulman who signed them to PolyGram. It was Shulman who suggested that John Bongiovi change his name to Bon Jovi. The band adopted the same name, and their self-titled debut album – which went gold – was published on January 21, 1984. The following albums were 7800 Farenheit (released in April 1985) and Slippery When Wet – which went gold and platinum within six weeks of its release, and sold more than 14 million copies.

The band took a hiatus in 1989, and Jon worked on his solo career. In 1994 the band re-united and released another album, Keep The Faith. They also re-grouped in 1999 to record the album Crush, and again in 2002 to release the album Bounce.

Jon’s solo career was a success not only in music – for example 1997′s Destination Anywhere – but also in acting. He appeared in several movies including Young Guns II (for which his song Blaze of Glory won a Golden Globe), Moonlight, Valentino, The Leading Man, Pay It Forward, and U-571. He was also a regular guest star on the TV show Ally McBeal until the series finished in 2002.

Jon married Dorothea Hurley in 1989. They have four children, Stephanie, Jesse, Jacob and Romeo Jon.
