Brief Bio
Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California. She rose to stardom as part of an acting and singing duo with her husband Salvatore “Sonny” Bono. They had their own television series, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, from 1971 to 1974. They also scored a hit in 1965 with the song “I Got You Babe.”

The couple divorced in 1975 and Cher took up a solo career, both acting and singing. She recorded several solo albums, and reached the top of the charts with the songs “Half Breed” and “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.” In the 1980s Cher starred in the Broadway productions “Come Back to the Five and Dime” and “Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean”, and in the movies “Sissy”, “Silkwood”, “Mask”, and “Moonstruck”. She won an Oscar for Best Actress in “Moonstruck”.

Cher toured widely, including a 325-date farewell tour that she completed in 2005. In 2003 NBC aired one of her live performances as “Cher: The Farewell Tour” – the program won three 2003 Emmy Awards (for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special; Outstanding Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special; and Outstanding Costumes for a Variety or Music Program).

In 1975 Cher married musician Gregg Allman, however the marriage lasted only ten days. She has two children, a daughter Chastity from her first marriage to the late Sonny Bono, and a son Elijah from her second marriage.
