Brief Bio

Fleetwood Mac, one of the most popular rock groups of the 1970s, started out as a blues band in the late 1960s. The initial group consisted of drummer Mick Fleetwood, guitarist Peter Green, and bassist John McVie. They were soon joined by guitarist Jeremy Spencer. Green, Fleetwood, and McVie had all previously played with blues legend John Mayall. Fleetwood Mac’s first album was released in 1968 and did well in the British charts.

The first half of the 1970s saw quite a lot of change in the band. Green and Spencer left the group, and John McVie’s wife Christine — a singer and keyboard player — joined. Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, Bob Weston, and Dave Walker were also members of the band during the early 1970s.

In 1974 Fleetwood Mac – by then consisting only of Fleetwood and the McVies – moved to California. There they discovered and were joined by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, two hugely talented performers and songwriters. Fleetwood Mac soon scored a huge commercial success with their 1975 self-titled album, which sold more than 5 million copies.

The next album, Rumours (1977), became one of the best-selling albums of all time and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for 1977.

Following the release of the next album Tusk in 1979, the band’s activity decreased somewhat whilst many of its members focused on solo careers. The following decades did however see many highlights, including further albums such as Mirage (1982), Tango in the Night (1987), Behind the Mask (1990), Time (1995), and The Dance (1997), and Say You Will (2003).
